Hi all

Yes, it’s me again with an update of Paul’s progress.

He’s doing really well and we’re just back from the oncology dept at N&N. He’s now clear of infections so we’ve taken the decision to go ahead with chemo.

Our consultant is brilliant and has recommended it as Paul’s doing so well. We know its not a cure but a delaying tactic but in Dr Rogues words “right, let’s nuke it all!” Continue reading »

Hi all,

This is a post I wish I didn’t have to write….

We had the definitive results of Paul’s last scan and it’s not good news. He’s developed secondary cancer so I’m afraid we’re looking at palliative care now. As you can imagine we’re both in shock although in our hearts we both knew that this would be the outcome. Continue reading »

Hi all,

They’ve decided which box to file him in….he’s on Guist ward at the Norfolk & Norwich hospital.

Scan should be on Wednesday and he’s doing OK. A small infection to clear up and his leg is getting a little better every day. Continue reading »

Some good news from Kathryn …

Hi all,

Addenbrookes have thrown us out!!!

They unexpectedly said on Friday Paul could go home to continue his recovery, so armed with a carrier bag of pills we came back home late on Friday.

They don’t think they’ll have to do the keyhole surgery for the pancreas now – Howrah – so he’ll have another scan in 3 weeks and then a visit to the team in Cambridge to see where we go from there.

Hopefully things will have cleared and he can be considered for the Whipples op again – fingers crossed … Continue reading »

Latest message from Kate at Addenbrookes:

Morning all,

Not too much to update today (Sunday 22nd). They’re still trying to sort the infection out as I type, so they haven’t done any more surgery yet.

He’s had a couple of tough days and a few good ones. It’s a bit like a fairground ride at the moment!

At least he’s put a bit of weight back on, which is good. Continue reading »

Some good news from Kate:

Hi everyone…

It looks as though Paul will be coming home (to Worlingham) this afternoon!!
An amazing recovery, to be completed in the comfort of his own home.

The plan is for a scan in 6-8 weeks and dependent on that a recall down to Addenbrookes a couple of weeks after that. Looking at his scar, all they’ll have to do is cut along the dotted line!!! Continue reading »

Here’s a Christmas update from Kate …

Morning all,

Not too much to report in with today.

He’s progressing nicely, spent most of yesterday sitting in the chair and he also had a long walk (with help) up and down the corridor. So things are going well.

He should move from intermediate care onto the ward today as he’s becoming more independent. They’re gradually removing bits of tubing so he’s feeling stronger all the while and looking forward to getting back home for some decent food and to get some weight and muscle back on. Continue reading »

Here’s the latest bulletin from Kate, Paul’s wife …..

Hi all

He’s had an op, unfortunately not the expected one.

When they got him into theatre they discovered that he’d developed pancreatitis at Norwich which had left a lot of dead tissue inside, so they spent several hours removing all this and fitted an internal bypass.

He was in theatre around 8 hours. He’s recovering well in HDU and hopefully will be back on C7 within the next day or two. Disappointing all round, but there was no way he could have recovered from a Whipples reconstruction as well. Continue reading »

Good news!

Paul is now well enough for his operation to be scheduled for 15th December at Addenbrookes.

As this is a major procedure, he will have to have a long convalescence period, but will hopefully be back to a reasonably normal routine (although we’re not sure what normal is for Paul!).

All of his friends wish him and Kate all the best.
